Dear Parents and Guardians,
We want to begin by addressing the end to the 2019-2020 school year. We are sorry for the abrupt end to the education of your children, especially to families who had children excited and ready to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist for the first time.
On March 5, 2020, two updates to our program came to our surprise. The first was the immediate pause to the program due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus. Every single person in the world has been affected by this, and our program was no exception. To protect the children when little was known about the disease, all classes were canceled until further notice. The second unforeseen event that significantly impacted Holy Family Religious Education was the immediate resignation of the then Director of Religious Education Sr. Patricia Dunham, M.P.F. At this time, she needed to attend to the needs of the convent as the Superior. The statewide shutdowns that closed the Rectory offices and directives to halt all parish activities, including Mass. We were unable to access student-facing materials and maintain communication with teachers. We are deeply grateful to the teachers who have maintained contact with you during this time.
During the phases of reopening, we have been at work to reestablish our CCD curricula and instruction to be ready for your children’s education come September. A team, collaborating with our pastor Fr. Joe Ferraro has been established first to schedule the missed sacraments, establish guidelines for the safe return of students, and restart collaboration with teachers. This team has begun and will continue to ensure that your children will receive the same quality faith formation. Your child’s education will continue with fidelity to the teachings of Jesus Christ and his Church, taught our dedicated, knowledgeable, and experienced catechists in collaboration with the team. The team responsible for coordinating Holy Family Religious Education is:
- Interim Director of Religious Education: Fr. Mauro Primavera
- Religious Education Coordinator, Gr. 1-6: Ms. Marta Cirilli-Kuebler
- Religious Education Coordinator, Gr. 7-9: Mr. Matthew Manlangit
- Coordinator for Reconciliation and Eucharist: Ms. Jone Gesumaria
Accompanying this letter are the procedures for the new academic year, formulated per federal and state law, CDC, and Archdiocesan guidelines. A calendar with important dates, including sacraments, class schedules, and other times of importance, will be posted on our website holyfamilynutley.org/ccd. This site will be our primary means of communicating forms and documents. Open registration will tentatively begin the weekend of July 11, 2020 and run through August 30, 2020. Teachers will reach out to each family regarding a new, simplified procedure for registration. The process will involve filling out these forms electronically and providing a printed and signed copy with fees and applicable certificates. Fr. Mauro, Mrs. Kuebler, and Mr. Manlangit will be available for all questions you may have during this time. We anticipate classes to begin on September 21, 2020. Please navigate to our Religious Education home page for contact information, relevant documents, and further announcements.
Please save the dates for the celebration of First Reconciliation that was missed that will be in the calendar, which are July 11, 18, and 25, 2020. Second grade teachers will, if they have not already, call home regarding practice and celebration of this very intimate moment our 2nd graders will have with the Lord this month.
We thank you for your immense patience during this period which has filled many with great uncertainty and doubt. Let us continue to live our parish mission, rooted in the Word of God and nourished by the Eucharist and to remember the words of Pope St. John Paul II, “Do not be afraid!”
